Volunteer Opportunities

Whether helping at a single event or on an ongoing basis, there are so many ways that you can make a difference in our Jewish community. Here are ways that you can have an impact, feel fulfilled, and bring  smiles to yourself and others.

Envelope Stuffing

Federation has periodic needs for able sets of hands for envelope-stuffing for invitations and mailings. If you would like to be on our list of potential envelope-stuffers, contact Lisa Verchin.

Bridge Player Volunteers at Jewish Senior Services

Manicure Volunteers at Jewish Senior Services

The Residents at Jewish Senior Services love to get their nails filed and polished. Spend some time chatting about the latest trends in nail colors, or….anything! The touch of a gentle hand and the sound of a pleasant voice will brighten the day of the Residents. All supplies are provided. To volunteer, contact Ellen Ashkins at EAshkins@jseniors.org.

Gift Shop Volunteers - Jewish Senior Services

Gift Shop Volunteers work a morning and/or afternoon shift in the Gift Shop selling lovely items to residents, staff, other volunteers, and family members. Shopping hours are Monday – Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. To volunteer, contact Ellen Ashkins at EAshkins@jseniors.org.

Hospice with a Heart – Chaifetz Family Hospice at Jewish Senior Services

Hospice Volunteers can be a friend and calming presence during a time of crisis, just someone to talk to. Hospice Volunteers assist with activities such as journaling, writing letters, reading, providing a break for family or a gesture as simple as just holding a Resident's hand. To volunteer, email Ellen Ashkins at EAshkins@jseniors.org.

Chanukah Mitzvah opportunity - Jewish Senior Services

Do you have an hour to spare during this Holiday season to spread the Chanukah light? Just one hour that would mean so much to the Residents at Jewish Senior Services.  Perhaps you could bring your choir to perform, some children to sing Chanukah songs, have a candle-lighting ceremony or help the Residents light their own menorahs. If you are unable to get to JSS, perhaps you could make cards or Chanukah decorations. If you are interested, please call Ellen Ashkins at (203) 365-6417 or email EAshkins@jseniors.org.
